چکیده

This paper deals with a new combined concept consisting of an oscillating water column (OWC) device and offshore wind turbine for the multi-purpose utilization renewable energy resources. The is supported by monopile foundation, attached OWC coaxial foundation. Within chamber, exterior shell foundation are connected four vertical stiffening plates. Correspondingly, whole chamber divided into equivalent fan-shaped sub-chambers. A higher-order boundary element method then adopted to model wave interaction system. Numerical models based on two different approaches, namely ‘Direct’ ‘Indirect’, both developed in this study. In addition, self-adaptive Gauss integration treat nearly singular that occurs when field source points very close each other. detailed numerical analysis conducted case integrated NREL 5 MW regular irregular sea states. results illustrate significant extraction efficiency attained remarkable piston-like fluid motion induced within sub-chamber, power absorption not restricted direction. air compressibility makes negative effect especially frequency less than resonance piston-mode chamber. forces can balance other at specific conditions, leading zero net force also using optimal parameter, production be important supplement system operational

Control of Oscillating Water Column (owc) Wave Energy Plants

Wave energy composes a direct and easy way of harnessing power from the Ocean. Among the different techniques used, OWC devices stand as one of the most promising ones. NEREIDA MOWC demonstration project is a breakwater wave plant located in the Basque location of Mutriku, using Wells turbines and Doubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs). Since one of the main objectives when dealing with renewa...

Control strategies for oscillating water column wave energy converters

The oscillating water column wave energy converter (OWCWEC) is an established device which produces electricity by causing an ocean wave to drive air through a turbine. A system to control the operation can improve the device’s performance. In varying sea conditions, different objectives for control may be appropriate. For example, in some seas the controller might shut off the plant because th...

Peak-power control of a grid-integrated oscillating water column wave energy converter

A critical characteristic of most WECs (wave energy converters) is the large peak-to-average power ratio. This poses many challenges to the design of high-efficient PTO (power take-off) systems and, even more importantly, to integrate this form of renewable energy into power grids. The OWC (oscillating water column) WECs are devices whose PTO uses an air turbine as the primary energy converter....

Analytical Investigation of the Effects of a Standing Ocean Wave in a Wave-Power Device OWC

In this work we study analytically and numerically the performance of the mean heave motion of an OWC coupled with the governing equation of the spreading ocean waves due to the wide variation in an open parabolic channel with constant depth. This paper considers that the ocean wave propagation is under the assumption of a shallow flow condition. In order to verify the effect of the waves in th...

Maximizing Output Power in Oscillating Water Column Wave Power Plants: An Optimization Based MPPT Algorithm

Abstract: This paper proposes an optimization based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for selection of appropriate external rotor resistances of wound rotor induction generator (WRIG). The generator coupled with a Wells turbine is used in oscillating water column (OWC) wave power plants. The Wells turbine suffers with stalling behaviour that reduces the average output power signific...
